ITALIAN RENAISSANCE PLAQUETTES

MODERNO. A gilt bronze Pax cast with a plaquette of the dead Christ supported by the Virgin and St. John, framed by Corinthian pilasters, inscribed above and below V.B. Maria Cancettio (the conception the Blessed Virgin Mary), the lunette above with of the Resurrection, 16th century, good cast with well preserved gilding.

MODERNO . A rectangular bronze Plaquette of the adoration of the Magi, light brown patina, (9.8cm.)

THE MASTER I.O.F.F. A Mantuan circular gilt bronze Plaquette of an allegorical scene, with a female figure seated on a dragon receiving a naked youth holding a palm branch and another with a decapitated head, signed I.O.F.F. in the exergue, 16th century, old after cast, gilding worn.

A VARIANT GILT BRONZE VERSION of the same with addition of cross behind the figure of Christ, his body shown behind, instead of in front of the sepulchre, punched ground, 16th century, gilding worn.

AN ARCHED BRONZE PLAQUETTE of the adoration of the Magi, a ruined building in the background, 4in. high (10cm.) 16th century, surface slightly worn.

NICCOLO FIORENTINO. A tinned bronze Pax of the Crucifixion within a Corinthian aedicule, surmounted by an arched lunette cast with the same version of the Resurrection the back inscribed with the monogram F.S.O., the figures cast separately and pinned to the back, 16th century.

A MILANESE TINNED BRONZE RECTANGULAR PLAQUETTE of the Flagellation in the manner of Cardoso, perforated at the top, rubbed old cast.

AFTER MODERNO. A gilt bronze Pox cast with the Virgin and Child enthroned between two cherubs, the base of the throne inscribed a Doric aedicule engraved Santa Maria .

WORKSHOP OF CHRISTOPH LENCKER. Arectangular bronze Plaquette of the flight into Egypt from a set of sixteen of the Life of Christ, Mary seated on an ass led by Joseph out of a wood, dark brown patina, high .

WORKSHOP OF LABENWOLF, NUREMBURG. An arched gilt bronze Plaquette of Christ before Caiaphas, from a Passion series, the High Priest enthroned above, Christ in the foreground seen from the back, the surface chased.

MODERNO. A gilt bronze circular Plaquette of Nessus and Deianira, perforated, 16th/17th century, rough cast, a box top, formerly fitted with a hinge.

MASTER OF THE ROMAN CHARITY. A circular bronze Plaquette of Mercury, reclining holding the caduceus and resting against an altar, within a honey-suckle border, the exergue blank, perforated at the top, light brown patina.

AN ITALIAN CIRCULAR GILT BRONZE PLAQUETTE of the Holy Family, the Virgin turned to the left holding the Child on her right arm, on the left St. Joseph turned to the right, the robes of the figures finely; hazed, the features crisply chiselled, double moulded rim with four perforations, 16th century.

VALERIO BELLI. A bronze circular Plaquette of the betrayal of Christ, signed Valerius Vicentinus in the exergue.

A RECTANGULAR SOUTH GERMAN GILT LEAD PLAQUETTE of the crowning with thorns, Christ seated in the centre holding a wand.

A PADUAN RECTANGULAR BRONZE PLAQUETTE of the dead Christ with the Virgin and St. John, within a Renaissance foliate border with raised imitation nail heads at the corners, inscribed О Domine Iesu Criste adoro light brown patina, perforated at top 16th century.

AFTER DONATELLO. A Tuscan bronze Relief of the Virgin and Child, derived from the Virgin and Child between two candelabra medium brown patina, 3in. (7.5cm.) 16th century.

A NORTH ITALIAN GILT BRONZE PAX of the Pieta framed within an aedicule, the figure of Christ shown half length behind the sarcophagus, a curtain behind; in the pediment above, a winged cherub’s head, in a panel below a floral ornament, 16th/17th century, and gilding much rubbed.
This appears to be a later adaptation of the Pieta Pope-Hennessy, Kress Catalogue.

VALERIO BELLI. A RECTANGULAR GILT BRONZE PLAQUETTE of the adoration of the Magi, the Magi and camels to the left, an arched doorway with Greek inscription to the right background, 16th century.

AFTER DONATELLO, A GILT BRONZE VERSION OF  the surface preserved in good State, 3in. high (7.5cm.) 16th century.

A GERMAN STAMPED GILT COPPER RELIEF of the seven-headed beast of the Apocalypse after Durer, the background out, 3in. diameter (7.8cm.) 16th century, the border defective.

AN ITALIAN BRONZE RELIEF of Christ seated, F right hand raised in blessing, His throne supported v a bracket in the form of an angel, mid-16th century.
The composition probably based on the figure of Christ in the Forteguerri monument by Verrochio in Pistoia cathedral.

A NORTH ITALIAN BRONZE RELIEF of the Virgin and Child, the Virgin shown half length holding the Christ child on her left knee, the border below with stamped rosettes, 17th century.
Apparently a later derivation from the group on the pay, Binge.

ULOCHRINO. A gilt bronze arched Blanquette of St. Cecilia playing the organ, an angel to the right, a lyre, a viol and on the ground, 16th century, good cast, apparently out from a rectangular probably regal.

MODERNO. A bronze circular of the death of Orpheus, seated in the centre attacked by Maenads, light brown patina, (5.8cm.) 16th century.

AN ITALIAN BRONZE RELIEF of St. John the Evangelist from a cross arm, 16th century, rough cast.

AFTER FRA ANTONIO DA BRESCIA. A bronze circular Blanquette with a sleeping cupid, leaning on an altar from which are suspended his bow and arrow, perforation on the top of the border, late cast, rubbed.
A bronze circular Blanquette of an allegorical scene, a youth receiving a cup from a winged putt, perforated at the top, crossed branches in the exergue, 16th century, dark green corroded patina.
Pope-Hennessy, Kress Catalogue’ states that the Kress and the Berlin example (now lost) were the only examples recorded.

AN ITALIAN GILT BRONZE RELIEF of God Almighty, enthroned, supported on an angel head bracket, an orb in His left hand, His right raised in blessing, 16th century, probably from an altar cross.

A GERMAN STAMPED COPPER RELIEF of the Lamb of God, standing on a triangular bracket, perforations, 15th century.

AN ITALIAN GILT BRONZE RELIEF OF THE LION Of ST. MARK, secants, holding a tablet,
and a bronze quatrefoil relief of St. Mark, the lion at his
side, 16th century, both from cross
arms.

A MANTUAN CIRCULAR BRONZE PLAQUETTE of the judgement of Paris, signed I.O.F.F. in the exergue, two perforations, 16th century, surface corroded and rubbed.

AN EMILIAN TINNED BRONZE PAX of the Virgin and Child enthroned with four Saints, six cherubs’ heads behind, framed within an aedicule surmounted by beneath the throne the arms of Last, in the back, the inscription: 1496 Rex Franco after cast, much rubbed.

STYLE OF MODERNO. A circular gilt bronze Blanquette of a battle scene with galloping horsemen and two prostrate soldiers, inscribed above Duban for-tuna, good cast, 16th century.

THE MASTER I.O.F.F. A Mantuan circular bronze Plaquette of Ariadne on Naxos, the female figure seated in the centre accompanied by allegorical figures, signed I.O.F.F. in the exergue, dark brown patina, diameter (5.5cm.) 16th century, perforation at the top, surface rubbed.
